On the 3rd of March in the year of 1969 Russell Louis Schweickart went into space on Apollo 9 mission as moon module pilot. In crew with James McDivitt (commander) and David Scott (command module pilot) he tested the moon module in earth orbit. During the test the moon module departed from command module to a distance of 100 miles and docked back successfully later on. Schweickart also went on a space walk for about 46 minutes On th 13th of march in 1969 the save water landing after a successful mission took place. On his one and only space flight he stayed 241 hours in space. Schweickart was member of the back up crew on the first skylab mission until he moved to the NASA headquarters in Washington D.C. on 1st of may 1974.
